We LOVE
to pray together

Our prayer story

There are so many ways to get involved & explore the prayer life of Tower Hamlets. From Morning Prayer in our historic parish churches to walking the streets on our borough prayer walks, we are a people of prayer.

Prayer Walks

Over the last year, we have gathered from churches across Tower Hamlets on Thursday mornings in different parts of the borough to pray and walk — a simple way of lifting up our many neighbourhoods and needs to God — often finishing at a coffee shop. We’re excited to have prayer walked every parish in Tower Hamlets with each other as well as the whole boundary of our borough as part of our prayer month in January!

Between now and the summer we are helping pilot an initiative called ‘Thy Kingdom Come Here’, a vision to prayer walk every street in London using and tracking everyones walks through an app.

We will mix up our previous fortnightly Thursday pattern a bit as every church takes the opportunity to prayer-walk their streets in meaningful ways for their communities.

For all the most up to date info and to TRACK LIVE ON THE DAY, join our WhatsApp group or send us an e-mail:

Monday 22 April - Mile End Road with Bishop Ric Thorpe

This is a special walk as Bishop Ric comes to prayer walk. He will be filming parts of the walk to share with the Diocese as part of Thy Kingdom Come, a global wave of prayer from Pentecost to Ascension. For us it will also be part of a new initiative to prayer walk every street in Tower Hamlets by the summer! (More info below)

START: 7.30am at The House of Prayer for East London (here)

FINISH: 8.30am (ish) at Altab Ali Park

Tuesday 30 April - St Paul’s Shadwell

Come and hear more about the vision for every church to partner in prayer walking every street in Tower Hamlets in the summer term as part of a pilot for ‘Thy Kingdom Come Here’. We’ll gather at St Paul’s Shadwell at 9.15am, hear about the initiative and app and then go out in small groups to try it out and have a pray.

START: 9.15am at St Paul’s Shadwell

FINISH: Come for as long as you can but we’ll finish at St Paul’s at 10.30am.

WE WANT TO PRAY FOR EVERY STREET IN TOWER HAMLETS!

For all of the summer term we will be using a bespoke web-app to track prayer walking across the borough. This is part of a bigger vision to prayer walk every street within the M25 in a month in spring 2025 - ‘Thy Kingdom Come Here’. But, this year churches and Christian organisations in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Barnet are piloting this vision and interactive map together. Do you want to get involved?

You can register to find out more here - https://www.thykingdomcomehere.london/

And watch this space for more info and some planned prayer walks where you can join with others and find out how to use the map whilst praying together.

Prayer Resources

We finish each prayer walk praying together our Tower Hamlets Prayer:

Father Almighty, may your name be praised in Tower Hamlets.
Have mercy on our many neighbourhoods and needs;
shine your great light on our darkness and disappointments.

Jesus our Saviour, we give you thanks for the rich history of the East End;
Heal the hurt of bombs and scars, of death and injustice.
Help your good-news-church to bring our borough hope.

Spirit of peace, let there be peace;
from Victoria Park to Island Gardens;
from Petticoat Lane to the River Lea.

For you, O God, are stronger than the Tower
and mightier than the Thames,
You are the Lord of heaven and earth.

Amen
