Little Volunteers, Lasting Change

Over the past few years, the GrowTH-run night shelter — hosted at churches across Tower Hamlets, including St Luke’s Millwall — has welcomed a group of Year 6 students from St Luke’s Primary School to help with shelter preparations. It’s a brilliant example of children safely and meaningfully engaging in community-level social action. You can read the full article — including a video interview with the students and Revd Ed Dix, Vicar of St Luke’s — on the Diocese of London website.

If you’re interested in exploring how children can get involved in church-based social action, the Compassionate Communities Team would love to hear from you. Their latest toolkit,  Engaging school children in church-based social action projects, is available to download and includes helpful resources like an example risk assessment (generously shared by St Luke’s CE Primary School), FAQs, and links to further reading.
